Laura Dobor
Postdoctoral Researcher - Ecosystem modelling, forest water and carbon cycles
All ecosystem models are simplifications, and therefore wrong to some extent. Their beauty lies not in perfection, but in the challenge of assembling many tiny fragments of understanding into something useful.

Specialization

Climatology, ecosystem modelling, model development, and climate change impact research.

At Forest Risk Research Centre

My research focuses on ecosystem modelling, model development, and climate change impact research. Over the past five years, my work has focused on forest disturbance dynamics, primarily using the individual-based forest landscape model iLand. Specifically, I studied the recovery of carbon fluxes and balance after disturbances, the effect of management on disturbances and recovery dynamics, and forest resilience to the compounding stress from climate change and herbivory. I have actively contributed to several COST Actions and the H2020 project RESONATE, investigating climate change impacts through diverse modelling approaches. Since my PhD, I have been involved in the testing and development of the BBGCMuSo model. From 2026 onward, my research focuses on drought-related impacts on the carbon–water cycle in European forests, integrating eddy covariance data with the BBGCMuSo model.

Beyond Science

I have a strong interest in sports, particularly swimming. I also enjoy hiking and mountaineering, including summer camping trips and skiing in winter. In 2022, I completed an Ironman triathlon, a long-distance endurance event that combined swimming, cycling, and running. I am also a mother of a little girl, so lately parenting has become an important part of my life and focus.
