At Forest Risk Research Centre
Roman focuses on the ecology and management of bark beetle disturbances, with emphasis on the spruce bark beetle (Ips typographus). He integrates field entomology with remote sensing and advanced monitoring tools to improve early detection of forest pest outbreaks. His research also covers methods for predicting outbreak onset and dynamics, and developing management strategies for their suppression and mitigation. He also serves as deputy head of the department, contributes to doctoral education as a member of the PhD board, and holds a seat on the Academic Senate of both the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences and the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague.
Beyond Science
When not in the forest or at the computer screen, Roman can be found on the badminton court. He also has a passion for old-growth forests and the variety of trees, and enjoys exploring history and architecture.
